This Pine Barrens hike is approximately a 5 mile hike in the Pine Barrens, and it will satisfy some second class and first class requirements for map and compass.

A map is attached, we will be going from Rocky Point on 25A to Whiskey Road in Ridge.  There are yellow boxes on the map for the start and endings.

It’s not a terribly exciting hike, but it gets us out for some exercise and satisfies some requirements.

We will meet at the location on 25A at 10:00 am on Sunday morning, 4/11/21.  You can drop your son off there at that time.

The hike will probably take us several hours.  My guess is 3 to 4 hours.  We will call you when we are at the other end for you to pick up your boys at the ending location

I will drive out sometime in the next day or two and try and give you more exact directions of where these spots are.

Please print out the map and bring it along.  Please bring along a map compass if you have one.

I am recommending everyone wear long pants, and that we spray the pants and shoes with insect repellant before we start.  I will have the spray with me.

Ticks are coming out, so we have to be aware and careful with that.

When the boys come home, make sure you check them over for ticks that day, and in the following days.  You may not find them right away.

Wear comfortable shoes, we will be walking for longer than they are use to.  Sneakers are fine, we don’t need hiking boots.

I recommend they bring along a small school backpack with a drink and a snack in it.

They don’t need to bring along their scout books, we will sign off on the requirements at the next meeting.

We will wear our class B uniforms or some sort of scouting shirt, and they can put some extra clothing in the small backpack for if it gets a colder.

If some boys want to do their Totin Chip, they should bring their knives along with them, and plan on staying another half an hour at the end to do that.
